Field Training Instructor

December 22, 2022
Who are we?
At Antarctica New Zealand, we proudly ensure that Antarctica and the Southern Ocean are valued, protected and understood. Our role is to support world-leading science and environmental protection and to raise public awareness of the global significance of the continent and surrounding Southern Ocean.
Scott Base has been the hub of New Zealand's activities in Antarctica since 1957. It's remote, so the small team that works at this incredible location needs to work well together, focus on safety and integrate successfully into the small community lifestyle.
A small team of field training instructors are responsible for delivering Antarctic Field Training and acting as field safety personnel to events operating in the field.
General field safety of Antarctica New Zealand personnel
Delivery of Antarctic Field Training courses (snow craft, sea ice safety, survival techniques, crevasse rescue, camp craft, terrain travel, environmental stewardship)
Assisting with helicopter/fixed wing operations and the management of equipment in the Hillary Field Centre
There are at least two, six-month roles from August 2023 until February 2024 available.
What you will bring
NZOIA Alpine 2 or NZMGA minimum qualification
Depth of experience in outdoor instruction and/or guiding in alpine terrain/cold weather environments
Operational experience in Alpine Search and Rescue
Current NZ motor vehicle licence Class 1
